Schoolgirls for Sale in Japan

Japan’s obsession with cutesy culture has taken a dark turn, with schoolgirls now offering themselves for “walking dates” with adult men. Last year the US State Department, in its annual report on human trafficking, flagged so-called joshi-kosei osanpo dates (that’s Japanese for “high school walking”) as fronts for commercial sex run by sophisticated criminal networks.

In our exclusive investigation, VICE News host Simon Ostrovsky will bring you to one of Tokyo’s busiest neighborhoods, where girls solicit clients in their school uniforms, to a concert performed by a band of schoolgirls attended by adult men, and into a café, where teenage girls are available to hire by the hour. But the true revelations come behind closed doors, when schoolgirls involved in the rent-a-date industry reveal how they’ve been coerced into prostitution.

  1. This is so sad, that these young girls are being exploited like this, how degrading to Females. I can’t believe this is still going on. This is not right, and it’s not ok, this is truly sick. This World is completely Wicked. 😢

  2. Manga/Anime- some ordinary guy easily getting whole harem of woman simping for him even when he doesnt want it
Reality- the country with the lowest sexual frequency in the world where 50% of japanese men are virgins by age 30
Rather then develop healthy romance/ sex lives they are stuck in fantacy obsessing over school girls

  3. why don't the government step outside and interfere? its happening on the streets and publicized like its normal weather broadcasting news so isn't this a result of the government negligence and indirectly advocating this business?

  4. Wooaaoo I had no clue about this. That man was so open and honest about hes "experience" of this whole situation.
Ofc some girls are totally okey with this but its hard to disagree with the fact of exploitations around the corners and shaded spots of an "industry" …
Also some of them seem to young to see the bigger picture of themselves geting taken advantage off (but thats only my opinion and it does not make it true)

  5. 1 Child trafficking and prostitution! Where are the UN and Japan’s government? This is also happening in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, North and South Korea, etc.
2 The law of supply and demand in economics: If there is little or no demand for a product, the supply decreases or stops. Japanese laws should go after parents, pimps, and adult males.
3 As it is worldwide now, religion is unimportant in Japan; 49% of people are Shinto, 46% are Buddhist, 1% are Christian, and 4% are members of other religious groups. These exploited schoolgirls show that religion and holy books are useless to lead a happy, loving life without exploitation.
4 At the end of the day, without love and sense of humor there is unhappiness and life is meaningless. 💕☮🌎🌌

  6. From GEISHA GIRLS to SCHOOL GIRLS…How far Japan has fallen. And to discover they are being "pimped" by their own FATHERS!!! 😫😫😫😫😫💔💔💔💔🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

  7. ‘Uncomfortable experience’…. Is the guy 12!!!!!! Serious issues like these aren’t made more serious by some fake shock journalism.
As a journalist from Vice you pretty much know what the situation is before you set off. This kind of fake sensationalism s really dumb.

  8. It seems like most of the comments here are saying this is bad, and it's too sad to see those high school girls doing that job. But, hello! those girls are the ones who choose to be like that, to work that kind of job, as long as there is many girls want it, then it will remain in Japan.
